The last sneeze

Monday, May 29th, 2006

We made it out to see X-men 3 - The Last Stand Friday night. It was good. The action was great. The underlying plot and scenes between could have been better though. It just seemed to be lacking a little. And I’m sure many of the die hard fans will be disappointed in the changes to Jean Grey’s history regarding the Phoenix. All in all, it was a good time.

I’m pleased to announce, I went out and cut the grass this morning and I’m not feeling too bad. I believe this is due to my diligence in taking my meds and the slight drop in tree pollen counts. If I’m lucky, this will continue and I can stop hiding in my house.

Well, its Memorial Day and we really didn’t have anything planned. Looks like we’ll be heading out soon here to take the kids to a movie. Go figure, us going to the movies. We’ll probably take them to see Over the Hedge. It looks pretty funny and cute. Steve Carell is great. We just watched the 40 Year Old Virgin again the other day. God that’s a funny movie.

Well, enjoy your holiday everybody. Its beautiful out. Get out and see some sun.

Davinci Flop?

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Well, I never did finish the book. Actually, I haven’t made it past that chapter 9 that I believe I mentioned in my last post about the book. And from those brief nine chapters and the first ten minutes of the movie, I could tell that anyone who read the book, was going to absolutely hate this movie. And seemingly Tom Hanks as well. Now the movie was fairly entertaining, but great by no means. It has actually made me want to read the book even more, well, maybe its more Jime bending my ear about all of the things they left out. So, hopefully, I’ll find the time to make that happen.

Now, as far as the controversy goes, I could definitely see what all of the hoop-la is about. It doesn’t matter that its a fictional book. It doesn’t matter that there is little if any proof to prove any of its claims. (Nor is there much proof to dis-prove them). Not that it attempts to make any ‘claims’. The Vatican would, and should, be shaking in its boots. Because fictional or not, this books puts forth some interesting and more importantly, plausible ideas. And an idea is a powerful thing. Ideas become beliefs. Now, I’m not saying that people are going to run out and make the Davinci Code its new bible. I’m merely saying that the thoughts put forth form a fairly believable idea that shake the foundations of the Christian religion. And once that idea is there, its not going away. And it will grow and evolve among the masses and found a new belief. Now, I’m sure the intelligent and the devout will have no problems consuming these ideas with little effect on what they currently believe. But those with questions may find this idea quite persuasive. Do I believe these ideas? I don’t know. Do I care? Not really. I’m not a theologian, I’ve never studied the bible or any religion to any great degree. I do know what I believe and how I feel about ‘organized’ religion in general. And this book and these ideas, however interesting, haven’t made much of an impact on my feelings toward either. So, be smart, we’ll all come to our own conclusions. Make your conclusion count.

Crappy

Yep. Been sick as a dog. So, I haven't been on much. Finally starting to shake it though I think. Got me some Anti-biotics and stuff. Hopefully I'll be all rearing to go for Sat. We (Jime and I) will be heading to the Merchant Square Mall down in Allentown, PA this Saturday, May 20th. We will be presenting some artwork and selling posters and some sketches possibly, at the Ultimate Allentown Comic Book Convention from 10am to 4pm. If you are any where near there, please feel free to stop by and have a look and say hi. Just look for the very large paintings of scantily clad ladies. See ya there! Monarch

Myspace sucks part 2

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

Well, I haven't gotten everything done I wanted to for this second installment of myspace sucks. But, I did finish up a pretty thorough article/tutorial on how to fix the bad layouts using Stylish. Check it out here. Yet to come will be the flash elimination and I think that's about it. Unless someone has any other suggestion I think we'll be done with myspace.

The National - Alligator

Friday, May 12th, 2006

The National - Alligator'The National', straight out of New York via Ohio comes to the table with Alligator, their latest album but my first experience with them. I pretty much love the whole thing less one song. In my opinion I would say that 'Looking for Astronauts' is the weakest song on the album. But everything else from the slow swagger of 'City Middle' and 'Geese of Beverly Road' to the rock-in 'Abel' and 'Mr. November' kick a whole lot of ass. I've seen a lot of comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave, which I think derives mainly from the vocals. And I can see where they're coming from. But these guys definitely stand on their own and I will certainly be checking out some of their older stuff. If you enjoy Interpol, I think you'll dig these guys a whole lot. Creative arrangements and vocals and interesting lyrics set you up for a good time. Check them out on eMusic. If you aren't really into the mainstream like me and enjoy finding new, different and obscure stuff, you'll love this site.

Rinsing

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

The rain is coming and the pollen counts are supposed to be dropping. Finally the thick yellow mess of pollen blanketing my vehicles and everything else around my house should get washed away. I’ve never seen pollen collect as it has been all over everything. I’m guessing it is because of not having rain for about a month. Its just sticking to everything and not going anywhere. But, finally, we should get be getting some relief. Even though now, they are calling for rain for about the next week it looks. And of course, this weekend is Jime’s graduation. Maybe we’ll be lucky and it’ll hold off during the ceremony. Either way, I’m sure it’ll be nice. Be sure to call, email or send brain waves of congrats to the new grad. She is starting her MFA this summer at Marywood. She’s on her glide path to greatness.
